Description
The Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max is Apple's compact single-port USB-C charger, replacing the 20W adapter at the same size. It delivers 40W continuously and can reach a 60W peak, and it is the first charger to support the USB PD 3.2 AVS protocol. It suits iPhone 17 series owners who want Apple's fastest wired charging, as well as anyone charging a MacBook Air or other USB-C device from a small adapter. Because AVS is part of the USB-C Power Delivery standard, it also works with Android phones and other USB-C devices.
Key features
- 40W sustained, 60W peak. The adapter supplies 40W continuously and can reach 60W at peak. In testing it held 60W for about 18 minutes before heat brought it back to 40W.
- Fast charging for iPhone 17. Apple used this charger for its 50% in 20 minutes claim for the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. iPhone Air reaches 50% in 30 minutes.
- USB PD 3.2 AVS. It is the first charger to support the USB PD 3.2 adjustable voltage supply protocol, which negotiates precise voltages to within 100mV. Whether AVS is used depends on what the connected device supports.
- Capable with laptops. Macworld charged an M2 MacBook Air at 57 watts from it. Another tester measured a MacBook Air M5 at 56.1W.
- Works beyond Apple. AVS is part of the USB-C Power Delivery standard, so the adapter charges Android phones and other USB-C devices on normal PD. It works with iPhone models back to the iPhone 15 series.
- Compact design. It is the same size as Apple's 20W charger, with folding pins and a white finish. A single USB-C port charges one device at a time.
