Description
The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is a handheld gaming PC running Windows 11 Home with a full-screen Xbox interface, offered here brand new in its single 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD configuration. It suits players who want to take Game Pass, Steam, Epic and other Windows libraries on the go. Xbox controller-shaped grips make longer sessions comfortable, and the 7-inch 120Hz screen with variable refresh rate keeps play smooth. The standard M.2 2280 SSD can be swapped for more storage later.
Key features
- Xbox-style comfort. The grips are shaped like an Xbox controller, which reviewers found more comfortable for long sessions. Heat is kept away from the palms, and the handheld weighs 670g.
- Ryzen Z2 A performance. The AMD Ryzen Z2 A runs 4 Zen 2 cores and 8 threads at up to 3.8GHz, paired with 8-core RDNA 2 graphics and 16GB LPDDR5 at 6400MT/s. Power modes run from 6W Silent to 20W sustained in Turbo, with 24W short bursts.
- 120Hz FHD display. The 7-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS-level panel refreshes at 120Hz with AMD FreeSync Premium. It is rated at 500 nits, covers 100% sRGB, supports 10-point touch and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus with an anti-glare coating.
- Your Windows game library. It runs games from Game Pass, Steam, Epic and other Windows stores. Advanced shader delivery preloads shaders during download, so supported games can start up to 10x faster on first play.
- Precise, durable controls. Hall Effect analog triggers, HD haptics, a 6-axis gyro and two assignable grip buttons sit alongside full-size sticks. ASUS rates the sticks for 5 million rotations and ABXY for 10 million presses in its own testing.
- Upgradeable storage. The 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is a standard M.2 2280 drive that reviewers confirmed can be swapped. A UHS-II microSD reader adds further space.
- Two USB-C ports. Both USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports support DisplayPort 1.4 output and Power Delivery 3.0 charging. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 handle wireless connections.
- 60Wh battery. A 4-cell 60Wh battery powers the handheld, and reviewers described its battery life as solid. It charges at 65W over USB-C.

What’s in the box
- ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handheld
- Stand
Good to know
- Performance is modest: the Ryzen Z2 A is essentially Steam Deck-class hardware with four Zen 2 cores and an RDNA 2 GPU.
- There is no USB4 or Thunderbolt port, so external graphics cards are not supported; that port is on the ROG Xbox Ally X.
- About 420GB of the 512GB SSD is free out of the box.
- ASUS lists security update support for 5 years, until 31/12/2030.
- Not to be confused with the ROG Xbox Ally X, which has the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB RAM, a 1TB SSD and an 80Wh battery.
