Description
The JBL Xtreme 5 is a brand-new portable Bluetooth speaker, released in April 2026 as the successor to the Xtreme 4. It delivers up to 130W with a 68Wh battery rated for up to 24 hours of play. An IP68 rating and drop-proof build make it suited to outdoor gatherings, poolside use and travel, while Auracast, wired lossless USB-C audio, and the JBL Portable app add flexibility at home. It suits buyers who want big sound and long battery life and are comfortable carrying a 2.9 kg speaker.
Key features
- More power than before. A single 90W RMS woofer and two 20W RMS tweeters produce 130W in total on mains power. On battery the output is 90W, up from the Xtreme 4's 100W and 70W figures.
- Long battery life. The 68Wh Li-ion battery gives up to 24 hours of playtime, extended by 4 hours with Playtime Boost. A 10-minute charge adds about 2 hours, and a full charge takes 3.5 hours with a 20V/3A input.
- Built for the outdoors. It is rated IP68 against dust and water and is certified drop-proof. IP68 means it can survive 30 minutes under a metre and a half of water.
- Wired lossless and power bank. The USB-C port carries lossless audio up to 24-bit/48kHz as well as charging. It can also charge your phone at up to 11V/2A.
- Auracast multi-speaker. Pair two Xtreme 5 speakers for stereo sound, or connect multiple compatible JBL speakers. Bluetooth 6.0 adds multi-point connectivity and fast pairing.
- Smart sound tuning. AI Sound Boost and Smart EQ Mode adjust the sound automatically. The JBL Portable app offers a fully adjustable 7-band EQ.
- Ambient edge lighting. Edge lighting gives visual cues for power, Bluetooth pairing, battery level and Auracast connection. Light colours and effects can be adjusted in the app.
- Practical design. A shoulder strap with floating hooks and a built-in bottle opener makes it easy to carry. It is made with recycled plastic and fabric.
