Description
The Apple 96W USB-C Power Adapter (model A2166) is Apple's single-port USB-C charger, delivering up to 96W through USB Power Delivery. It is the adapter Apple recommends for the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) and the one Apple uses for its fast-charge testing on the 14-inch MacBook Pro. It suits MacBook Air (2022 or later) owners who want fast charging, anyone replacing a lost 16-inch MacBook Pro charger, and users of other USB-C Macs and devices. It accepts 100–240V input, so it handles the mains supply in Nigeria. Note that the charging cable is sold separately.
Key features
- Up to 96W of power. The top output profile delivers 20.5V at 4.7A, about 96W. That is enough to power the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019), for which Apple recommends this adapter.
- Fast charging for recent MacBooks. It fast charges the MacBook Air (2022 or later) and the 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later) with a USB-C charge cable or USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable. Apple advertises 0–50% in about 30 minutes on a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the right cable.
- Apple's own test adapter. Apple tested fast charging on the M5 14-inch MacBook Pro in September 2025 using this adapter, model A2166, with the USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (model A2363).
- Four USB PD output levels. It supports 5.2V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A and 20.5V/4.7A over USB Power Delivery. A connected device only draws the power it supports, so it can be used with phones, iPads and laptops.
- Wide input range. It accepts AC 100–240V at 50–60Hz. This covers the 230V/50Hz mains supply used in Nigeria and the UK.
- Broad Mac compatibility. Beyond recent models, it works with the MacBook (12-inch, early 2015–2017), MacBook Air (13-inch, 2018 and later) and 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro (2016 and later). Apple says you can safely use an adapter with higher or lower wattage than the one recommended for your Mac.
- Successor to the 87W adapter. It replaced Apple's 87W USB-C adapter from 2016, which came with 15-inch MacBook Pros. The top output rose to 96W while keeping a single USB-C port.
