Description
The JBL Boombox 4 is a brand-new portable Bluetooth speaker built for outdoor gatherings, parties and anyone who wants big sound away from a wall socket. It delivers 200 W RMS on battery, close to the 210 W it gives on mains, through two 5-inch woofers, two tweeters and three passive radiators. Battery life runs up to 28 hours, or 34 hours with Playtime Boost, and the battery itself can be swapped when it wears out. An IP68 rating, Auracast linking and wired lossless playback over USB-C round out a capable, durable speaker.
Key features
- Full power on battery. The Boombox 4 produces 200W RMS unplugged and 210W RMS on mains. That is up from 136 W on battery for the Boombox 3, so it keeps its volume and punch away from a socket.
- Long, replaceable battery. A 99.02 Wh lithium-ion pack gives up to 28 hours of play, or up to 34 hours with Playtime Boost. The battery is replaceable, so a worn pack can be swapped rather than the whole speaker, and a spare extends play time.
- Deep, adjustable bass. Two 123 mm woofers and three passive radiators reach down to 37 Hz. Two Bass Boost modes, Deep Bass and Punchy Bass, are selected with a button on the top panel, while AI Sound Boost adjusts the sound in real time.
- IP68 protection. The speaker is rated IP68 waterproof and dustproof, up from IP67 on the Boombox 3. Its build uses post-consumer recycled plastic and a recycled fabric grille, with a built-in carry handle.
- Auracast multi-speaker. Auracast lets you stereo-pair two Boombox 4 speakers or link several Auracast-enabled JBL speakers. It replaces the older PartyBoost system.
- Lossless audio and power bank. Connect a laptop or other device through USB-C for wired lossless playback, where the source supports it. The same speaker can also act as a power bank to charge a phone.
